İNGİLİZCE ÖZET

Discipline is any action disigned to correct employee deviations from organizational rules procedures, policies, and norms. Discipline carries the connotation of punishment, but this need not be the case. It depens on the problem, employee and the situation.

As mentioned the primary objective of discipline to motivate an employee to comply with the company's performance standarts. An employee receives discipline after failing to meet some obligation of the job. The failure to perform as expected could be directly related to the tasks performed by the employee or to the rules and regulations that define proper conduct at work.

A second objective of discipline is to create or maintain mutual respect and trust between the supervisor and the employee. Improperly administered discipline can create such proplems as low morale, resentment and ill will between the supervisor and the employee. In such cases any improvement in employee behaviour will be relatively short -lived and the supervisor will need to discipline the employee again in the near future The proper administration of discipline will not only improve employee behaviour but will also minimize future disciplinary problems through a positive supervisor- subordinate relationship.

There are two basic approaches to discipline in first approach those in charge can rule with an iron hand, punish rule violators severely; expressed with the cliche "Do it else". This mode of leadership has variously been called negative discipline, punitive discipline autocratic discipline. This approach was very common until the 1930's. Union helped check it and in more recent years, changing employee values have kept it bay.

One major shortcoming in using negative discipline is that it often results in the personnel avoiding punishment, having negative attitude toward management, and looking for ways to beat the system. The approach does not create the enthusiastic whole hearted support needed for maximum organizational effectiveness.
